George showed me the power of unconditional love
My grandfather George Quinones, has been a resident of Pomona since 1965.
Honored as Pomona’s Older American at the 19th Annual Older Americans Recognition Day May 12 by the Los Angeles County Department of Senior Citizens Affairs.
A trained Senior Advocate he assisted seniors with problems related to housing, social security, and taxes.
He was also a Pomona Senior Citizens Activity’s and Meals Program Volunteer, who worked frequently at the city’s nutrition sites, serving meals, taking donations and registering guests.
He also served as a volunteer for the Pomona Valley Hunger Project. He helped determine eligibility, packaged food, and carried parcels for the needy. He also started a fund-raiser for the programs first Oktoberfest and collected many prizes and donations.
He was also a member of the boards of Get About Transportation, The Greater Pomona Housing Development Corp., The Pomona Committee on Aging and The Scamp Advisory Council.
George Quinones, my grandfather is a prime example that “Older is Better.”
He has numerous certificates from the City of Pomona as well as a plaque.
